“It is part of an approach that was made before this Government began, which was made by President Andrés López Obrador himself, that our goal, our aspiration is to have free health services and medicines,” the official explained.
In this way, as of this Tuesday, health services in all federal hospitals that were already free for people affiliated with the Mexican Institute of Social Security ( IMSS ) or the Security Institute for employees of private companies and Social Services of State Workers ( ISSSTE ), for government employees, will be available to everyone and will be paid with taxes, since there will be no charge for services.
Before López-Gatell’s announcement, the population without social security had to pay a recovery fee to public institutions. The undersecretary indicated that, after analyzing the elimination of this type of charges, it was determined that these payments had a minor impact on the recovery of federal hospitals.
“For the finances of the hospital it is not an important advantage and instead for people it is an important disadvantage, why have fees”, said López Gatell.
